On Wednesday 18 November the City of Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, spoke at length in a Westminster Hall Debate in Parliament that he secured on Personal Injury Claims.
During the course of the Debate, which took place at 2.30pm, Karl said that personal injury claims add at least £93 to the average annual motor premium. Most of these claims - which amount to some £2.5bn - are for whiplash. These are usually very minor injuries that require little or no proof of injury.
Karl is hopeful that his Debate will build on the work he has already carried out both in respect of his Car Insurance Survey and Analysis in the last Parliament and as a Member of the Transport Select Committee and put further pressure on the Government to make much-needed reforms to the system.

Karl McCartney MP said: “I was very pleased to have secured the debate on personal injury claims, which is an issue I campaigned on as a Backbencher and subsequently as a Member of the Transport Select Committee throughout the last Parliament and continue to do so.
“This issue affects all drivers up and down our Country, many of whom have fallen victim to fraudulent claims and the pernicious actions of some operators in this sector, including a small but significant number of solicitor and law firms.
“I very much hope that the representations that I and several other Members of Parliament made to the Justice Minister, Caroline Dinenage MP, will persuade the Government to reform the personal injury claim system to the benefit of law-abiding and insurance-paying drivers at the earliest opportunity.”
