I am greatly saddened by the news of Lord Cormack’s passing. We met only a week ago where he once again passed on his wise counsel on both Parliamentary matters and the future of our City. He has always been first among many in Lincoln to offer advice and reassurance on a plethora of matters, always in a kind way.
In many ways he also transcended politics. As a Conservative Parliamentarian, he was rightly respected by everyone from all sides after 50 years accumulated in both Houses. As a dedicated and passionate historian of both Parliament and Lincoln, he helped bring both fully to life for the benefit of everyone at home or abroad.
Patrick has played a significant role in all of our institutions and as a fellow Christian, his commitment to our faith and our Cathedral has been a real guiding light, although he often chided me gently for not attending Evensong as regularly as he did. Whilst our most wonderful City will miss him personally, as will of course Lady Mary and his family, and his wide circle of friends, his presence will always be with us through his towering achievements for our history and culture.
Godspeed The Lord (Patrick) Cormack.
