The Conservative Government’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt MP, announced a number of key measures in his Budget today. All of these will support workers, families, pensioners and businesses right across Lincoln, Skellingthorpe, Bracebridge Heath and East Waddington. All have been greatly welcomed by Lincoln MP, Karl.
These measures include:
- Better Childcare Support: Extending 30 hours of childcare a week to working parents of children aged 9 months to 4 years.
- Supporting Energy Bills: Extending the Energy Price Guarantee at £2,500 for three months.
- Freezing Petrol Duty Again: Fuel duty is frozen for a thirteenth year, saving the average driver around £200.
- Protecting Lincoln Pensioners’ Incomes: Protecting the Triple Lock, providing certainty in retirement for all of Lincoln’s pensioners. This means that in April, the State Pension will increase in line with inflation, which is the biggest cash increase in the State Pension ever and will benefit all pensioners.
- Raising Incomes for Lincoln’s Low Earners: Increasing the National Living Wage, providing a £1,600 annual pay increase for low-paid workers across Lincoln. From 1 April 2023, the National Living Wage will increase by 9.7 per cent to £10.42 an hour for workers aged 23 and over, delivering the largest-ever cash increase for the National Living Wage.
- Better Journey for Lincoln’s Motorists: Investing £23 million to fix potholes across the East Midlands, funding enough to fix the equivalent of 460,000 potholes and improving journeys for motorists.
- Better Support for Disabled People in Lincoln: Establishing a new Universal Support programme for disabled people and the long-term sick.
- Supporting Lincoln’s Pubs: Delivering a Brexit Pub Guarantee so draught duty will always be less than duty in supermarkets.
- Supporting Lincoln’s Businesses: Ensuring the UK still has lower corporation tax rates than the US, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Canada alongside new tax credits for businesses to encourage greater investment.
- Supporting our RAF: Investing an extra £5 billion in defence and national security over the next two years, improving our resilience and readiness of our defences - all of which will support RAF Waddington.
In response to the Budget, Lincoln MP, Karl, who always Puts Lincoln First, Karl McCartney, said: “Today's Budget once again has shown only the Conservatives are on the side of Lincoln’s workers, families, pensioners and businesses.
In this Budget, we are protecting pensioner incomes, helping families with childcare and energy costs, supporting motorists by freezing petrol tax and fixing potholes, as well as boosting the wages for those on low pay.
We are able to do this because we are successfully managing the economy through the current global cost of living crisis and because we believe in supporting the law-abiding majority.
Starmer and his Lincoln Labour cheerleaders would wreck the economy and local jobs. They would put up taxes likely they always do, lose control of inflation that eats into everyone’s income and fails businesses, large and small. Like normal for Labour".
