Karl, Member of Parliament for Lincoln, visited the Nationwide Building Society branch in Kings Heath, where he learned about the services the building society offers and the new ways it is serving members through the cost-of-living crisis.
One of these services is Money Lessons -- Nationwide’s youth education programme for children and young people.
Nationwide staff volunteer to deliver sessions on a wide range of topics including savings, budgeting, and staying safe online. As of February 2023, the building society has worked with 270 schools across the UK, with 32,300 students having taken part so far.
- Money lessons is Nationwide’s children and young people youth education programme which is offered as a volunteering opportunity for all colleagues
- Targeted at students from Y1 to Y13, the programme works with schools across the UK to deliver sessions on a wide range of topics including savings, budgeting and staying safe online
- To date, 270 schools across the UK have taken part, reaching 32,300 students
- 98% of students said they gained confidence in their relationship and understanding of money
Karl said: “I was pleased to visit Nationwide’s Lincoln branch to discuss their branch strategy, the financial education programme and how they are supporting their members through the cost-of-living crisis.
“Getting to grips with budgeting and managing money is a vital life skill – and with everyone currently feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks, it has only highlighted the importance of keeping a close eye on personal finances.
“I am delighted to see that young people in Lincoln will have the opportunity to learn these lessons from a young age.”
