The Prime Minister announced a wide range of measures today with regard to tackling high energy bills and an acceleration in ensuring that the UK has energy security for the future. This will benefit the people and businesses of Lincoln, Bracebridge Heath, Waddington East and Skellingthorpe.
The plans included:
- A typical household will now pay no more than £2,500 a year on their energy bill for the next two years from 1 October 2022.
- Businesses will see their energy costs capped at the same price per unit that households will pay under the government's new plans. This will last for six months with a review after three including for certain industries and vulnerable businesses.
- Lifting the green levy that added £150 to bills.
- The Conservative government will make sure the UK is a net energy exporter by 2040, through the use of fracking, expanded nuclear and renewable energy generation.
- In the short term there will be greater production of oil and gas with the granting of additional licences.
Karl, who always Puts Lincoln First, said: “I welcome the Conservative Government’s announcements today in tackling rising energy bills for households and businesses. This will have a real impact and will provide reassurance that action is being taken especially with winter just around the corner.
“It is also vital that we look to the future so we are never in this situation again so accelerating the investment in current and new energy sources is a positive move.
“Those, like the Leader of the Labour Party, who are complaining about increasing the use of fossil fuels in the short term will be primarily those who can afford to pay higher bills and do not live in the real world.”
