Karl McCartney, the Conservatives Candidate for Lincoln at the General Election, today attended the official opening of the St Giles Academy (formerly the Chad Varah School) in Addison Drive, Lincoln.
The event began at 0840 with an official ribbon cutting and was followed by a tour of the School and an unveiling of a plaque ceremony which Karl had the honour of conducting.
Chad Varah was previously placed in special measures and subsequently EOS Education/New Dawn Trust took control of the School whereupon they made significant progress. Going forward it is hoped that St Giles Academy will one day achieve an 'Outstanding' grading from OFSTED.
Karl McCartney, said: “It was an honour to be invited to the official opening of St Giles Academy and to conduct the unveiling.
“My thanks goes to all of the teachers, management team and staff who worked so hard to turn the School around, as well as organise this splendid event.
“St Giles may still have some way to go to achieve an 'Outstanding' grading from OFSTED, but they have made great progress in recent months, and have extremely committed staff, pupils and parents - I have every faith in their determination to continue to build on their success.
“The School is a true success story, supported by Hartsholme Academy, whose Trustees and Governors I know well having been one myself, after Chad Varah (their former School name) went into special measures.
“The staff at the School are changing opportunities, outcomes and the future prospects for children in part of our beautiful City of Lincoln.”
“I am proud of everyone at St Giles Academy and look forward to continuing to help staff, pupils and parents achieve their goals in the future.”
