Further to the decision by Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (LWCCG) to close two of the City of Lincoln’s GP surgeries in January 2017, Karl McCartney JP MP has now written to the LWCCG to demand that they issue a public guarantee that waiting times for doctor’s appointments across the City will not increase because of these closures. He has also asked whether what plans there are to ensure that at least the same level of GP surgery capacity is maintained in the City and whether these two surgeries are to be permanently closed, ‘mothballed’ or used for any other health related service
The two surgeries affected are the Arboretum Surgery in Monks Road (3,056 registered patients) and the Burton Road Surgery (2,447 patients) and letters have been sent this week to registered patients urging them to register with six (Arboretum) and four (Burton Road) alternative 'nearby' GP surgeries.
Karl McCartney JP MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “The people and taxpayers of Lincoln rightly need a public guarantee from the Clinical Commissioning Group that these closures will not have a knock-on effect that makes it harder for everyone in Lincoln to see a doctor as quickly as they might wish to, and should do. I have always been a champion for transparency and accountability in public services so the people of Lincoln have a right to know what the impact of these closures will be and what plans are in place to make sure the health needs of the City are not negatively affected.”
