Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney JP MP, has hailed the Government’s decision to award Full (final) Approval to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass scheme promoted by Lincolnshire County Council.
The Council has completed the necessary legal and procurement processes and construction can now begin. The Department for Transport funding contribution will be a maximum of £49.95m towards the full scheme cost of £94.615m.
Works will start in January 2017 and be completed by December 2019.
As the Member of Parliament, Karl has continued to place modernising the transport infrastructure of the City of Lincoln as his highest priority and has worked in partnership with the County Council in presenting the case and securing the funds for the Eastern Bypass from the Government.
This announcement continues the recent good news on transport in the City with the recent official opening of the East-West Link Road, the completion of the Lincoln High Street Level Crossing Footbridge and funding secured for the Transport Hub – schemes all backed and promoted by Karl.
Karl McCartney JP MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “I am delighted that the Government continues to back Lincoln with its support for funding vital transport projects and the Lincoln Eastern Bypass is no exception.
“Of course I would have liked to see the scheme delivered as a dual carriageway design, but I am pleased to have a new road rather than no road and to have played my part in bringing this to fruition.
“I will continue to actively support both the City and County Councils in bringing the missing pieces of the City’s transport jigsaw together.
“The construction of the Eastern Bypass is another important step forward in making Lincoln the most vibrant, successful and modern City in the whole of the East Midlands.”
