Karl McCartney JP MP, Member of Parliament for the City of Lincoln, has welcomed the Government’s Autumn Statement which helps working people and families keep more of what they earn, enables more people to buy their own home and gives confidence that more investment can be secured for the County’s road network. This will ensure Lincoln, Lincolnshire and the whole Country is in the best shape possible to take advantage of the golden opportunities a post-Brexit Britain brings.
Thousands of students at Lincoln University and Bishop Grossteste University alongside others living in rented accommodation will be cheering at the prospect of the end to unfair tenants’ fees charges by letting agents.
A range of key announcements include:
- Helping people keep more of what they earn by ensuring no one pays income tax until they start earning £12,500 and helping to further boost the pay of those on low wages by increasing the National Living Wage from £7.20 to £7.50 in April 2017.
- Supporting those who lived in rented homes and flats by putting an end to unfair tenants’ fees and also helping to build more homes for people to buy
- Helping car drivers and businesses by freezing fuel duty for the seventh year running (a Labour Government wanted to keep increasing it) and by investing in unblocking key road bottlenecks. Karl will be ensuring a strong case is made to build a Southern Relief Road for Lincoln to take advantage of this extra funding.
Karl McCartney JP MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “This Country has a bright future not only because of the golden opportunities that leaving the European Union brings but also because we have a Conservative Government that is looking after the interests of working people and families in Lincoln. The changes on income tax, the living wage and freezing fuel duty proves that beyond doubt.
“I was particularly pleased to see more help for people to climb onto the property ladder and stop them being at the mercy of some letting agents continues to support Britain as a property owning nation. This move will also bring benefits to the City’s large student population.
“There continues to be the need to improve the transport infrastructure in and around Lincoln. The fact that the Government has announced extra funding to deal with bottlenecks on strategic roads gives me more confidence that a clear case can be made to receive funding for a Southern Relief Road. This will help whole County move far quicker and bring enormous economic and environmental benefits.”
