Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney JP MP, has welcomed Virgin Trains’ decision to run four additional services to and from Lincoln to Doncaster and Leeds to support the annual Christmas market with tickets starting from just £7.50 one way in Standard Class when booked online at www.virgintrainseastcoast.com.
The Lincoln Christmas Market will take place between 1 and 4 December 2016 and regularly brings more than 250,000 visitors to the historic City.
The Virgin Trains Lincoln Christmas Market services will be made up of an additional return train from Lincoln on the 1 and 2 December at 21.14 arriving into Doncaster at 21.54 and Leeds at 22.43, allowing shoppers extra time to enjoy the evening festivities and cram in as much shopping as possible. On Saturday 3 December there will be an early train at 6.57 from Leeds passing through Doncaster at 07.43 and arriving into Lincoln at 08h36 enabling early risers to make it to Lincoln in time for a coffee before hitting the stalls. After a long day perusing, the additional return train at 20.16 will get into Doncaster at 21.03 and Leeds at 21.44.
These special additional services follow on from the announcement of additional Virgin Trains weekend services to Leeds, York and Edinburgh from Kings Cross from December.
Karl McCartney JP MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “Christmas shoppers from Lincoln and further afield will be delighted that Virgin Trains East Coast are, once again, running extra rail services between Lincoln, Doncaster and Leeds - to and from our City - on the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of December. The addition of the Thursday service means that Virgin are actually running one more service than last year.
“Lincoln's Christmas Market is an event in early December that attracts international as well as regional visitors and shoppers. Virgin Trains’ extra services will encourage more people from across our Region to come to Lincoln and enjoy the shopping experience that our City has to offer.
“It’s a win-win situation for all of us.”
