Following the decision made by the High Court today that Parliament must vote on whether the UK can start the process of leaving the European Union despite a clear mandate from the People of the United Kingdom in the June Referendum, Karl McCartney JP MP, Member of Parliament for the City of Lincoln, said: “I, and the majority of people in Lincoln and the County as a whole, will be greatly disappointed by the High Court’s judgment as it is clear that the Country voted to leave the European Union. This was made possible by an Act of Parliament and the consequences of a No vote were clear in that it meant invoking the Article 50 process.
“Those who took this to the High Court are acting like petulant children, who, because they did not get their own way in the Referendum, are doing all they can to impede the will of the People. They are so arrogant, they obviously do not believe in democracy and regard themselves as better and more intelligent than the 17.4 million who voted for our great Country to Leave the European Union. Sadly for them, they are wrong. I am confident the Government will succeed in its appeal, will still invoke Article 50 as planned, and the will of the People of our great democratic Country will not be thwarted.”
