Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, has now formally asked Lincolnshire County Council to impose a 20mph speed limit following his initial informal enquiries and request on 13 November 2014 on the stretch of the A607 outside St John's Primary Academy in Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln.
Karl McCartney MP said: “I recently held a public meeting at St John's Primary Academy in Bracebridge Heath during which local residents and parents of children at the School again expressed great concern at the speed of traffic immediately outside St John's.
“I have taken on board the concerns of my constituents in this matter and have again, following a further site meeting today, asked the Portfolio Holder for Highways and Transport at Lincolnshire County Council, Cllr Richard Davies, to investigate the possibility of imposing a 20mph speed limit on the stretch of road specifically outside the School.
“I am pleased to note that the UK is a world leader in road safety, with statistics showing fewer road deaths per million population than in almost any other EU country. There is, however, always more we can do which is why during Road Safety Week last month I joined representatives of the road safety group, Brake, in urging all road users to help stop the five deaths and 61 serious injuries that happen every day on our roads.
“As Lincoln’s Member of Parliament and a Member of the Transport Select Committee, I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that Lincoln’s children are able to walk to school safely.”
