Karl McCartney MP has hailed new regional figures on the success of the ‘Benefit Cap’ claiming it proves “work pays in Lincoln.”
New Figures released by the Department of Work and Pensions show 1,487 households in the East Midlands households have had their benefits capped.
The cap was introduced by the Conservative-led Coalition in 2013 and is levelled at £26,000 PA – the average British salary.
Official figures show that without the Benefit Cap some people would be still receiving the equivalent of almost a £70,000 salary each year.
Karl McCartney MP said: “These regional figures are really encouraging and show that work pays in our City.
“The Benefit Cap is ending the something for nothing culture in Lincoln and is part of our long-term economic plan for a stronger Britain.
“It is the Conservatives who can make the difficult decisions for our Country with Labour opposing the Government’s welfare reforms.”
