Following the announcement that Lincoln County Hospital will be completing the modernisation of its neonatal intensive care unit by the end of the year, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP has welcomed the good news and believes the case for a new maternity unit at the hospital is now even stronger. Alongside the current neonatal unit that is being replaced, the maternity unity also dates back to the late 1960’s and is a building in dire need of replacement. Karl has noted that Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital has just started work on building a new £3.7m maternity unit.
Karl McCartney MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “Whilst I am delighted of course that work will be soon starting on modernising the neonatal unit at the County Hospital, it does highlight the need to also modernise the Lincoln maternity unit which is in need of significant investment. It does not make sense to have an old maternity unit sitting alongside a state-of –the-art neonatal unit. Such an improvement would be to the benefit of both the people of Lincoln and the County as a whole, as well as the medical staff who fulfil a superb role at our County Hospital.”
