The Owner of the Cathedral Heights Brewery in Lincoln, Steve Marston, visited Parliament on Monday 23 November at the invitation of local Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, to see seven casks of one of his very own real ales, Churchill’s Pride, sold in the Strangers’ Bar at the House of Commons.
The opportunity came about after Karl asked the Strangers’ Bar to host a Cathedral Heights’ beer and the House of Commons Bar - which usually offers a choice of two cask ales when the House is sitting - kindly agreed.
The beer on offer, Churchill’s Pride, is a twisted golden session ale, using American high alpha bittering hops throughout.
Karl was also able to present to Steve a Certificate, courtesy of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, to mark the guest appearance of Churchill’s Pride in the Strangers’ Bar.
Karl McCartney MP, said: “It was great to welcome Steve to Parliament and see Churchill’s Pride for sale in the House of Commons’ Strangers’ Bar.
“We have had a great response to the Guest Ale, which has already been established as a firm favourite of Members of Parliament and their guests since it went on sale earlier this week.
“It is extremely pleasing for me as the local Member of Parliament to see Cathedral Heights Brewery - which I believe is the only brewery in my City of Lincoln Constituency - go from strength to strength.
“I look forward to continuing to support Steve and the other small businessmen and women in Lincoln in any way I can into the future.”
Steve Marston of Cathedral Heights Brewery, said: “I am very grateful to Karl for arranging for an ale from Cathedral Heights, a small artisan brewery, to be sold in the Members’ Bar in the Mother Of All Parliaments.
“I also enjoyed chatting with Karl on the Commons’ Terrace, before being given a tour round other parts of the Parliamentary Estate.
“The sale of seven casks of Churchill’s Pride in Parliament this week has been a huge privilege for us and our small, but growing Lincoln business, as we continue to look for further opportunities to expand.”
