Lincoln MP, Karl, has welcomed £2.1 million of Conservative Government funding for Lincolnshire County Council to extend the £2 bus fare cap, ensuring passengers across Lincoln and the whole County can continue to ‘Get Around for £2’.
Overall, the Conservative Government is investing £200 million in extending the cap for single bus fares at £2 outside of London until October 2023.
Across the UK a further £300 million has been announced to protect routes and services that are relied on for work, education, medical appointments, and shopping. As part of this, local transport authorities such as Lincolnshire County Council will receive £160 million to improve fares, services, and infrastructure, while £140 million will directly support operators in protecting essential services.
Karl, who always puts Lincoln First, said: “Buses are vital to people across the City for work, education, shopping and for getting to appointments. Keeping the costs down will make a real difference which is why I am delighted the Conservative Government is continuing to put a cap on local bus fares. We are the only political party with a plan and a commitment to support people with the current increased cost of living.”
Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP, said: “Taking the bus is the most popular form of public transport and people across Lincoln rely on these vital services every day. This investment will help them save money amid cost of living pressures and continue to level up transport in all parts of Lincoln, Lincolnshire and the country, doing our bit to help halve inflation and grow the economy.”
