Following the decision by the Government to provide an extra £7.7 million to Lincolnshire County Council over the next two years, including £5 million for the forthcoming financial year (2016/17), Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney, said: “I am pleased that the clear case that I, and my fellow County MP’s, made in partnership with the County Council has been listened to by the Government.
“This extra funding will certainly help to continue to fund vital services and is part of the wider strategy to allow the county to be less reliant on Central Government and take more control of its own finances. This is why transferring control on business rates is so vital in continuing to make Lincoln and the County of Lincolnshire one of the most business friendly cities and counties in the Country.
“It is a pity that all the Labour Leader of Lincoln City Council does is continue to complain, when if he and his colleagues took the same proactive and positive approach that the County Council takes, then they would perhaps achieve a fairer hearing. They now have the opportunity to show residents and businesses in the City how responsive they can be as they take control of the business rate and local taxation. Some of us will not holding our breath though.”
