Due to be delivered by Bowmer & Kirkland, the project will provide a much improved station environment, featuring a new, brighter and enlarged booking hall. The new look station hall will ease the flow of passengers and improve the overall travelling experience at Lincoln Station. An additional 40 bike spaces will be provided to make it easier for passengers to cycle to the station.
Karl McCartney MP, said: “It is of the utmost importance that we do all we can to improve rail links to and from Lincoln, which is a vital hub for serving our passengers in Lincolnshire. This major station improvement project at Lincoln will make a big difference to the overall travelling experience for the passengers who use it for over 1.6 million journeys every year and I look forward to attending the official opening of the new ticket hall in a few months’ time.”
Wifi technology has now been installed at Lincoln station as part of a programme to install Wifi at 29 East Midlands Trains’ stations. The free service is now available throughout the concourses, platforms and other public areas within the station.
The improvement work will be carried out with minimal disruption to passengers and extra steps will be taken to keep the station open at all times. The improvement work is scheduled to be completed by spring 2014.
