On Tuesday 15 July Karl visited Neston High School in Cheshire - a School Karl attended as a schoolboy and took his first four A-levels at between 1986 and 1987 - after being kindly invited by the Headmaster, Mr Steve Dool, to attend their Key Stage 3 Graduation Events.
Karl joined Mr Dool before having lunch with Neston High’s new teachers after their first year in post, and attended the School’s Reward Celebration in the afternoon.
The visit gave Karl the opportunity to speak to Neston’s 14 year old students about to embark on their examination courses. Lincoln’s Member of Parliament talked to the children about some of the local jobs he had undertaken in his youth while a resident in Neston and quoted his father’s wise words that “Life is not a dress rehearsal, we are only here once. Take every opportunity that your education and life might well offer you.”
Karl McCartney MP said: “I very much enjoyed meeting pupils and giving sage advice on the importance of taking the opportunities that education offers.
“I have very fond memories of Neston High – the education I received there stood me in good stead to go on to captain the Welsh Universities Football XI, achieve BA and MBA degrees, become a Magistrate and, most recently, a Member of Parliament.
“I am grateful to all at Neston High for the kindness they showed me on Tuesday. I enjoyed returning 'home' and I look forward to continuing to keep in touch with parents, staff at all levels and pupils alike.”
