- Lincoln's Member of Parliament and over a dozen other walkers complete a total of 35 miles on the Archbishop Stephen Langton Magna Carta Trail
- 35 mile walk took place on Saturday 12 September 2015 from 0515 - 1900
- Over £2000 raised so far for this year's' five local charities
On Saturday, 12 September, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, along with his fellow walkers, including Mrs. Cordelia McCartney, completed a major challenge to raise both the profile and sponsorship monies for five local, Lincoln-based, charities.
Beating the Bounds 2015: Magna Carta Edition entailed Karl and his fellow volunteers walking the Archbishop Stephen Langton Magna Carta Trail from Castle Square to Langton-by-Wragby and back - a total (with detours) of around 35 miles.
This change in the usual route for ‘Beating the Bounds’ was in celebration of the historical 800th Anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta, a major event for both Lincoln, Lincolnshire and our Country.
So far, the Walk has raised over £2000.00 from corporate and individual sponsors for the five good local causes: LIVES, Family Focus, KIDS, OneMe and YMCA Lincolnshire who will all benefit from the money raised by the walk.
Karl McCartney MP: “I am delighted that my Team of walkers and I completed Beating the Bounds 2015: Magna Carta Edition! last Saturday.
“Despite some difficulties with signage that I shall be making appropriate colleagues at Lincolnshire County Council aware of, the walk from Castle Square to Langton-by-Wragby and back was an outstanding success despite some tough periods and inclement weather.
“We are happy to have raised over £2000.00 for this year's five local charities.
“I would like to thank all the walkers for accompanying me, as well as the charities, corporate sponsors, and other helpers, who provided invaluable support throughout the event and its planning, in particular Robert Prior and Richard Butroid, and the charity volunteers who provided refreshments through the day, the Reverend Mark Holden of St. Giles' Church, Mr. & Mrs. Shuttleworth, Roy and Peggy and Margaret their daughter, and the Castle Hill Club too. True grit was shown by all!”
