In response to the terrible invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Karl has issued this statement:
“The horrific events in Ukraine are appalling. Russia’s assault on Ukraine is an unprovoked, premeditated attack on a sovereign democratic state.
“I fully support the UK government’s measures to ensure there is a heavy cost to Russia and as ever the UK has taken a leading role in driving and helping coordinate the international response. There is now real momentum across the globe. This is what our Country does best and Boris Johnson has once again shown his leadership qualities.
"My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people who are losing their lives and suffering injury alongside those unable to escape and those fleeing the country, many leaving their sons, fathers, partners and brothers behind to fight. I pay tribute to all those who are bravely resisting this invasion. President Zelenskyy is a true leader of his people and I salute his determination, courage and resilience.
“These are dark times to live in and whilst no one wanted to be in this situation, except the Russian leadership, it is vital that we are taking decisive action to defend a sovereign state. The lessons of history need never be forgotten.
“I am hopeful that a positive resolution for the people of Ukraine will be found soon.”
