Karl has long championed that Lincoln and Lincolnshire need a Film Strategy and a dedicated Officer at the County Council to take advantage of the stunning locations and architecture that the area has to offer film and TV makers.
During the Spring several hundred crew and cast arrived at Lincoln Cathedral to film the movie, Napoleon, by A-List director Ridley Scott - the event highlighting the extraordinary potential our City and County has as a destination for the film industry.
Following this Karl was spurred on once again to make inquiries with various agencies across Greater Lincolnshire about establishing a dedicated Film Strategy for Lincoln. He is delighted to announce that he was able to recently host in March the first Lincolnshire Film Officer and Strategy meeting, with a range of key local stakeholders to hopefully encourage more film productions to take place here in the City of Lincoln and across Greater Lincolnshire. In late July, he had a follow-up meeting following a sub-committee meeting to map out the strategy of what we all would like to see from a funded role, and what success for the County and the various ‘interested parties’ would look like in a few years’ time.
Karl, who always Puts Lincoln First, said: “The region boasts a wealth of ancient and historic locations, from Lincoln’s Cathedral and Castle to the richly characterful architecture of Steep Hill and Bailgate, through to some of the finest stately homes in England. And the surrounding distinctive fenland, Wolds and Wash coastline offer powerfully atmospheric cinematic landscapes of their own.
“We have so much to offer as a County and we have had previous success with Lincoln and other County grand houses being used as the location for a variety of globally enjoyed productions, with more in the pipeline - but we can, and always should strive to do more. I look forward to working with the various stakeholders who were kind enough to attend the meetings we have had, as we move forward.”
