Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, is continuing his preparation for a major challenge to raise both the profile and monies for five local, Lincoln-based, charities.
Beating the Bounds 2015: Magna Carta Edition will entail Karl and his fellow volunteers walking the Magna Carta Trail from Castle Square to Langton-by-Wragby and back - a total of around 33 miles - on the 12th September. This change in the usual route for ‘Beating the Bounds’ is in celebration of the historical 800th Anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta, a major event for both Lincoln, Lincolnshire and our Country.
The Beating the Bounds Lincoln Constituency Charity Walk involves, and will support, five charities/good causes:
· LIVES
LIVES Medics & First Responders are all volunteers who give up their time to respond to emergencies in your area. When you dial 999 not only will an ambulance be mobilised, but at the same time, the LIVES volunteers on call in your area will also receive notification that you need their help. The limited road networks surrounding the more isolated parts of Lincolnshire mean that many parts of this county often need to wait longer than others for an ambulance to arrive. These extra minutes are vital to a patient. In extreme circumstances this could mean the difference between life and death. LIVES aims to be by your side within 5- 6 minutes of you making that 999 call.
· Family Focus
Relationships take many forms, such as couples, family groups, extended families and living in communities. Familyfocus works with such connections when they become disrupted, damaged, or broken, with the aim of healing, re-connecting, or help in understanding damage that may have occurred.
· KIDS
KIDS is a national charity providing a wide range of services supporting disabled children, young people and their families. Kids have been providing services for children and families for over 40 years. Currently KIDS works with approximately 8000 disabled children and young people each year. All of KIDS’ services are driven by an overarching commitment to a more inclusive society and our passionate belief that disabled children and young people have a right to be included on an equal basis. There are 12 KIDS centres across Lincolnshire.
· One Me
The Trustees of OneMe believe that lack of finance should not be a barrier to achieving goals and awards grants to young people aged 16 to 25 of £100 to £1,000 to assist with economic barriers to education, training, citizenship and employability. Lincolnshire businesses are invited to make OneMe their chosen charity – contact details can be found on www.one-me.org.uk
· YMCA Lincolnshire
The YMCA enjoys a good reputation within the City and County and works in partnership with local, regional and national organisations. The Mission Statement of Lincolnshire YMCA is: “To demonstrate our faith through social action”. The current organisation is made up of the following activities and departments: Administration & Finance; Youth Work; Health and Fitness; Housing; Outreach; Childcare; International Work; and Room Letting & Conference Facilities at the Showroom on Tritton Road.
Karl explains why he wants to 'Beat the Bounds' once again:
“This year's fundraising challenge is rather special as Lincoln (and our Country) celebrates the 800th Anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta. To celebrate this historical act, rather than walk the boundary of our constituentcy of Lincoln, this year, we are proposing to complete the Magna Carta Trail from Castle Square to Wragby and back.
“I am inviting anyone and everyone to join me on the 12th September as we walk to and then back from Langton-by-Wragby, birthplace of Archbishop Stephen Langton - who was a key figure in both the writing and sealing of Magna Carta on 15th June 1215.
“If you would like to participate or alternatively sponsor the individual walkers, the charities they represent, or to corporately sponsor the entire event (with suitable advertising provided), please do sign up for more details via the links on the 'Beating the Bounds' webpage www.beatingthebounds.org.uk or contact me through my Westminster Office on 020 7219 7221.”
