Recently the City of Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, met with representatives of the Lincoln Bypass Action Group to discuss their support for the current plans for the Lincoln Eastern Bypass (LEB). The Lincoln Bypass Action Group are a group of residents who live around Hawthorn Road and on the Carlton Estate and close to where the proposed Bypass crosses with Hawthorn Road.
At the meeting with the Group they agreed with Karl that the Public Inquiry, to be held this August, will give everyone in Lincoln the opportunity to show their support for the LEB and to tell those in power that this relief road is needed sooner not later.
Karl McCartney MP said,
“I am very grateful to the Lincoln Bypass Action Group - in particular, Imogen Lemon, Eileen Chase and Geoff Stratford - for taking the time to meet with me to discuss the Lincoln Eastern Bypass.
“We all agreed that we need this relief road to be built at the earliest opportunity.
“I also talked to the Group about the brilliant news I secured from the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Secretary of State for Transport towards the end of last year confirming the securing and ring fencing of Government monies for the Bypasss.
“Further, there was also a clear indication that if the Lincolnshire County Council and the LEP representatives, who supposedly represent Lincolnshire Businesses, were to get their act together, we could actually see a dual carriageway Eastern Bypass which would acknowledge that the views of my constituents and businesses and workers in my constituency of Lincoln are the right ones on this issue, and they deserve the best transport infrastructure possible.
“That includes a dual carriageway right around the East and South East of Lincoln taking the A15 traffic all the way to the Bentley Hotel Roundabout on the A46 dual carriageway. That would be a suitable infrastructure project for the County capital, especially with so many new homes due to be built in and around the City of Lincoln over the next 10-20 years.
“However, we would like the Bypass to be built sooner rather than later and so, ultimately, any new road is better than no road in the first instance of course, but anyone who lives, or is a representative of the City or areas close to it, are well aware that a dual carriageway is the only sane solution - for anyone and everyone.
