Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, has welcomed today’s figures showing that there are 1,550 more people in work across the City of Lincoln than in 2010, a 50% reduction in people claiming key out of work benefits. Across the United Kingdom there are 2.7 million more people back in work, testament to the successful handling of the economy by the Conservatives following the failures of the last Labour Government.
The good news for Lincoln’s economy has continued since the decision to Leave the European Union was made as the City’s largest employer, Siemens, has publicly stated that it will continue to invest in Britain.
With the employment rate at a record high, and the proportion of young people who have left full-time education and are unemployed at its lowest ever rate, today’s figures show that the unemployment rate has dropped to below 5 per cent across the United Kingdom – the lowest since 2005.
Karl McCartney JP MP, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, said: “Because of the decisions the Conservative Government has taken over the past six years, this Country’s economy has gone from strength to strength and the City of Lincoln is reaping the benefits.Lincoln is clearly the place to come to work, to set up a business and to invest in, even more so now we are leaving the European Union which was holding us back.”
