Following the news today that the Conservative Government has agreed to fund a traffic bridge connecting Skellingthorpe Road and Tritton Road as part of the Western Growth Corridor (Swanpool Development), Lincoln MP, Karl, said: “I am delighted the Conservative Government will be providing the funding for this vital new traffic bridge. Without it, once the new Western Growth Corridor development is built, there would be gridlock across the whole of southwest Lincoln.
“During the planning process, traffic congestion was a huge concern for residents living in this part of our City and this new bridge will go a significant way to addressing their rightful concerns.
“The bridge and the proposed new road also have the added advantage of helping to relieve the current traffic congestion on Skellingthorpe, Doddington and Tritton Roads - which is urgently needed.
“The funding shows the Conservative Government’s continuing commitment to levelling up and investing in our City, all with a real focus in improving the quality of life for families, workers, pensioners and of course, supporting local businesses.
“This continuing commitment can be seen through a huge range of projects including the restoration of our Central Market; reopening and revitalising our Drill Hall; opening the new Eastern bypass, with a new relief road in the south to come; plus of course new investment in the County Hospital’s A&E, increased police officers and continuing support for apprenticeships.
“As the Conservative Member of Parliament, who always ‘Puts Lincoln First’, I am also pleased to have worked with a range of partners on making this particular traffic bridge happen and will continue, as I have always done, to make the case for even more levelling up investment for our wonderful City.”
