With respect to the much worse recent traffic problems on Skellingthorpe Road, caused by the construction of the first houses on the Western Growth Corridor (WGC) development, Lincoln MP, Karl, said: “One of the main reasons that I, local Conservative Councillors, such as Eddie Strengiel and David Clarkson along with local residents, opposed this huge development is because of the chaos and congestion building it will cause. We have been proved right.
“We were constantly told by the Labour Council that there was nothing to worry about. They have been proved wrong.
“Long-term, this does not bode well, because this is only the very start of a long period of construction. This chaos could go on for years and it will solely be the responsibility of the Labour Party in Lincoln, no one else’s fault at all.
“I recently secured a further £20 million from the Government for the new road bridge over the railway at Tritton Road - because once Labour Councillors had agreed to the development of the WGC, we needed to avoid this whole section of the City from being gridlocked by their decisions - made with no thought nor foresight for the future. But that was to make sure this do not happen once it had been built. It is unacceptable for gridlock and congestion to be caused right at the start.”
