Over the last few weeks, various Lincoln primary school children have been busy drawing Christmas puddings, Christmas trees, snowmen, angels, reindeers, sleighs, stars, robins, stockings, bells and all-things-Christmassy for Karl McCartney MP’s annual Christmas Card competition.
Back in September, Karl wrote to all primary schools in Lincoln inviting their children to design the Christmas cards that he shall be sending to his colleagues and many hundreds of individuals, businesses, charities and other organisations he has met and corresponded with in his capacity as the Member of Parliament for the City of Lincoln Constituency.
The Judging Panel - which consisted of Karl, Sue Dowman at the Lincolnshire Echo and Henry Ruddock of Ruddocks of Lincoln - met to decide which of the children’s designs should be featured on Karl’s card.
Emily Taylor in Year 6 at Lincoln Minster Preparatory School won the Christmas card competition.
The eight runners up, who also have their designs included on the rear of the card, included:
- Milo Humphries, Year 6, St Faith & St Martin Junior School;
- Kennedy Carey, Year 6, Lincoln Minster Preparatory School;
- Olivier Zembrowski, Year 3, Sir Francis Hill Primary School;
- Isobel Reetham, Year 5, Lincoln Minster Preparatory School;
- Honey Marcus, Year 4, Lincoln Minster Preparatory School;
- Sijin Wang, Year 4, Sir Francis Hill Primary School;
- Eliza Kosmider, Year 3, St Hugh’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy;
- Olivia Daubney, Year 3, Lincoln Minster Preparatory School.
Karl McCartney MP, said: “This year, as in previous years, I received so many fantastic designs from primary schools around our City, which my fellow judges and I greatly enjoyed choosing between. The competition is always enjoyable, although, given the depth of artistic talent in Lincoln, choosing a winner is never easy.
“In the end we opted for Emily Taylor’s beautiful drawing of a Christmas tree to adorn the front of my Christmas card and the entries of Milo, Kennedy, Oliver, Isobel, Honey, Sijin, Eliza and Olivia, as runners up, on the back.
“My continued thanks goes to both Ruddocks of Lincoln for once again sponsoring the competition and the Lincolnshire Echo for all their help and support in publicising it, and in particular, to Henry, Sue (and their respective colleagues who also helped) for agreeing to sit with me on the Judging Panel.”
