On Wednesday, 22 April, Karl McCartney, the Conservatives’ Parliamentary Candidate for Lincoln, welcomed the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Energy, Rt Hon Matt Hancock, to Lincoln as part of a national tour in which he aims to visit 100 businesses in 100 days.
The two Conservative politicians spoke to a number of independent retailers in the Bailgate area of the City to ask what more the Conservatives in Government can do to help them grow, create jobs and make the difficult job of running a small business easier.
Some of the issues raised by Lincoln’s small businesses included the Employment Allowance where National Insurance is not due on the first £2000 of taxable income so that that money can be used to take on apprentices and next year’s review of business rates.
Later in the day, Karl was joined by the Minister for Transport and the Conservatives’ Parliamentary Candidate for South Holland and The Deepings in Lincolnshire, Rt Hon John Hayes, who joined some of Karl’s Campaigners for a delivery session in Minister Ward.
Karl McCartney JP, said: “It was very kind of both Matt and John to come to Lincoln.
“Matt took the time to speak to numerous small business owners in Bailgate, including Colonia of Bailgate Jewellers; whilst John received positive feedback from residents whilst delivering my literature in the Minster area of Lincoln.
“As Matt and John reminded my fellow Lincoln residents, only by voting Conservative on 7 May can we continue with our Long Term Economic Plan and thus avoid the ultimate calamity of Labour Government propped up by Scottish Nationalists deciding policy in England."
Rt Hon Matt Hancock, said: “I very much enjoyed visiting the beautiful City of Lincoln to support Karl's re-election campaign and continue my tour of small businesses around our country.
"Small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy in this constituency and responsible for nearly half the job creation in the UK.
"That's why the Government has thrown its weight behind the business community and introduced a whole host of measures to make it easier for them to start up and thrive which is why there are 235 more businesses in Lincoln since 2011.
"Businessmen and women in Lincoln know that Karl has been an extremely hardworking, effective and pro-business local Member of Parliament for Lincoln over the last 5 years and I hope and expect him to be returned to Parliament on 7 May."
Rt Hon John Hayes, said: “It was a pleasure to come to Lincoln to help Karl and deliver his literature.
“Karl has been a hardworking MP for the past five years, standing up for Lincoln at every opportunity.
“In my own area of transport Karl has lobbied for the Lincoln Eastern bypass and faster trains from London.
“The Conservatives have delivered both these but they would be at risk from an Ed Miliband Government propped up by the SNP.”
