It's no cliché, our children are our future, and what we invest in them will determine the future growth and success of the city of Lincoln.
Whilst Labour may have stated their core aim to be "education, education, education" little was done to improve the opportunities of those living in Lincoln. Since being elected I have pushed to increase the opportunities and to ensure that the very best education facilities are available to give our children the best opportunities.
It is great news for young people in the City of Lincoln that this Government has found billions of extra funding to ensure every child has a place at school so that they can fulfil their potential. This is part of our long-term plan to create an education system that gives young people who want to work hard the skills they need to get on in life and have a more secure and better future.
I am pleased that things are improving in Lincoln. Since 2010 Lincoln has doubled the number of University’s and seen a large expansion in higher education provision. Since 2010:
- The University of Lincoln has continued to grow and has now been joined by Bishop Grosseteste as the City's second University.
- Lincoln College has expanded to several new sites
- Lincoln's first University Technical College will open in September 2014
In addition to higher education, I welcome the news that the Government has announced extra funding for Lincolnshire to create new school places. This is in addition to the £5 billion that is already being spent in this Parliament. This means that between 2014 and 2017 schools in Lincolnshire will receive £31,817,222. This is part of the Government’s long-term plan to give every young person the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
