A first-class transport system is vital for the success of any city and given the fact that Lincoln is booming. Without the ability to ensure that people can get to work on time and safely and that goods can be moved to where they are needed, the economy of any city suffers.
Since I was first elected in 2010 I have tirelessly campaigned on transport issues, and it is why one of the first things I did was to seek and secure election to the Transport Select Committee in Westminster - which is responsible for scrutinising government transport spending. Through my position on the committee, my lobbying of Minister's and my engagement with businesses and the County Council, I have made real progress in improving Lincoln's transport network and securing vital investment.
My key achievements include helping to secure:
- East-West High Street Link
- Lincoln Eastern Bypass
- Dualling sections of the Western bypass
- Bottleneck and pinch-point improvements
- Direct Trains to London
- Improved cross-country train services
- Level Crossing Footbridges
We still need new pieces of infrastructure such as the Southern Relief Road, a fully dualled Western Bypass, a park and ride system, and more common-sense traffic management systems in the city to help keep traffic moving. I will do all I can to make these happen.
